Official Bio
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
In my role as a licensed clinical psychologist, I work specifically with women to help you make sense of your problems, recognize the resources and strengths you have within, and learn science based tools for lasting change.
Feel stuck? Burnt out? Anxious? Disconnected? Confused about what the next step is meant to be?
After over 10 years in the mental health field, I opened my private practice in San Francisco, California to help you with these exact challenges. I’ve sat on the client side of the couch myself, so I know just how transformative therapy can be.
During our work together I draw on various techniques and create a tailor made approach that helps you become a healthier, happier and more confident version of yourself.

In keeping with my desire to make mental health feel accessible, I created an online platform (@drcatherineschmidt on Insta) where we talk about all things women’s mental health. The growth of this community organically led to workshops and courses, and ultimately in creating The Good Mood Studio, a private destination for women to learn tools for effectively managing your mood and feeling your best (while embracing the messy parts of life along the way).
My expertise has been featured in various publications and on podcasts including Happiness in Progress, Modern Motherhood, Connecting and Finding Meaning, and I have served as a board member for the San Francisco Psychological Association and acted as the Early Career Professional Chair.
Outside the office you can find me planning adventures, creating pottery, baking or cuddled up on the couch with my husband, son, and wild labradoodle, Richard.
